Thank GOODness I don't live in Santa Rosa anymore ... I would be here every damn day. City Garden Doughnuts has THE BEST doughnuts I have ever had in my life.
The doughnuts have a nice crisp on the outside, are light on the inside, and are ridiculously full of flavor! The lavender and pistachio doughnuts were my favorites, although my taste buds tell me all their sweet treats are on another level.
Straight up ... if you are in the area ... this is a MUST TRY. -

I am opinionated and consider myself an expert on many things sweet. Donuts being one. I have had donuts from all of the world including the UK, Alaska, Mississippi, Idaho, Chicago, Korea, Germany, Poland, etc., etc. The best donut I have ever had was a little place in Ocean Springs, Mississippi called Tatanuts made from potato flour. They melted in your mouth.
Now I don't consider City Garden donuts bad. How can you screw up deep-fried dough covered in sugar? They were actually quite good. But they are four to FIVE FREAKING DOLLARS EACH!!!! Come on people, it's fried dough. I don't care if it is locally sourced and sustainable. It's freaking dough and sugar. I get that you are trying to be hipster and all with your avocado toast and probably pay your people a living wage to be all socially responsible with organic, non-gmo, and alergan free everything that helps fight climate change, but I refuse to pay $5 for a donut ever again. Maybe you think your "creativity" is worth more than the run of the mill apple fritter and glazed raised. But I have had maple bacon, lavender, and cronuts even in Idaho, so your creativity is not all that. I guess I should conclude my rant. I am just still upset that I paid $5 for a freaking donut. I am not cheap and maybe I am an a-hole for leaving a bad review about a donut that I actually enjoyed, but it is just fried dough and sugar. -

Went here because we heard about/saw the good reviews and wanted to try the gluten free stuff. Disappointed to see they only have one gluten free thing - a scone. It was good. But I would hardly make this place a regular stop for it. They didn't even have gluten free bread for avocado toast, which is relatively easy for expanding your GF options. We got a coconut milk latte and turmeric latte as well- both good. But $17 for just those two drinks and the scone?! We won't be back.
I would say though that their service was great - really quick and friendly. And the ambiance clean and cute. If you're not GF and don't mind the price I can see why people would love this spot. -

I really love this spot. My only complaint is the prices. One slice of avocado toast shouldn't cost as much as a gourmet sandwich.
Donuts. Delish.
Salmon (lox) toast. Delish.
Venue. Clean. Open space. Very white. Louder scene.
Parking? Street parking. Not always easy but free. Could be worse.
Staff. Attentive.
Coffee drinks. Yum.
This will be a spot I go for a special treat. -

So many choices..... we had the smoked salmon toast and the maple bacon bar, both were super good. I don't usually care for donuts but the maple bar was excellent, light, crunchy and not at all oily. There are so many choices I will definitely be back. Can't wait to try the avocado toast and bacon blue cheese scones. Staff is friendly and the shop is spotless.
